June Bloom: Your Work

June Bloom: Your Work

JUNE 22, 2024

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.
Colossians 3:23

According to Pew Research Center, only 51% of Americans are happy with their jobs. Every other person goes to work each day dreading the experience. In Colossians, Paul devoted a special paragraph to slaves, telling them to do their work “heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” At the same time, he told them in 1 Corinthians 7:21 that if they could gain their freedom, to do so.

No one has a perfect job, and perhaps you’re not happy with yours. If you can find a better job, do so. But wherever we are, let’s remember we aren’t working under human employment. We are servants of the Lord. We want to produce quality results so that He will be glorified. In the process, God often puts us in certain places as His “secret agents” in offices, schools, or factories.

Bloom where you’re planted! Make the very most of every opportunity to thrive where you are. Trust God with the problems, and give Him the glory!

In the products we make, in the way we work, in the impact of our labors on society and on the relationships affected by our work, we are instruments of God’s redeeming work in a broken world.
